On July 26th 2009 Olivier Lambercy received a Best Presentation Award at the 11th IEEE International Conference on Rehabilitation Robotics (ICORR) in Kyoto, Japan, for his paper entitled Rehabilitation of Grasping and Forearm Pronation/Supination with the Haptic Knob".
ICORR is a major international conference focusing on assistive technologies, therapeutic robots, prosthetics and robots for caregiving, which is organized every two year.
Olivier Lambercy presented part of the work carried out during his PhD thesis at the Control and Mechatronics Laboratory, under the supervision of Prof. Teo Chee Leong. The presented paper described results of a clinical study with the Haptic Knob, a robot specially designed at the National University of Singapore for the rehabilitation of hand function after stroke. Nine chronic stroke subjects participated in a clinical study in collaboration with Tan Tock Seng Hospital, receiving robot-assisted therapy over a period of 6 weeks. After therapy, subjects significantly improved motor function of the hand and arm, which illustrated the positive effects of robot-assisted therapy with the Haptic Knob, and the potential of such robotic device to improve the quality of life of stroke survivors |
